The Slum Ministry

MEBC's vision is to transform this community with the love of Christ.

The Slums

Situated on the outskirts of Yangon, the Hlaingtha Yar township slum is a village of bamboo shacks built on stilts over waste-water. During the rainy season months, this water can rise above the floor level in many of the shacks. The section of the slum where MEBC ministers contains an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 families, most of which do not have access to clean water, education, or medical care. MEBC's vision is to transform this community with the love of Christ. We plan to do so by providing food and clean water and teaching the community about basic hygiene. We also hope to use education as a vehicle to empower these people to lift themselves out of poverty; primarily by investing in the children and teaching them practical skills and English.
